STAATSBURG – A New York City man,
who was kayaking with his girlfriend in the Hudson River off Staatsburg
Saturday morning, remained missing by evening after their vessel capsized
near Mills Mansion.

Several emergency agencies searched for Ian Jones, 32, into the evening
hours. His girlfriend, Tali Fruchtmann, 22, also of New York City, was
located in the water and picked up by a passing vessel.

The craft capsized around 9:50 a.m. with marine patrols and dive teams
responding to search the river.

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, which is leading the search,
suspended operations at dark and was continued on Sunday.

Sheriff’s Capt. John Watterson said the size of the area and conditions
on the river have made it difficult to search.

Authorities also searched the shore near where Jones was last seen.

Neither Fruchtmann nor Jones was wearing life preservers at the time they
went into the water, Watterson said.

Jones is described as a white man, approximately six feet, three inches
tall, with a slim build, dark hair, wearing jeans and a denim shirt.

Anyone who sees someone matching that description is asked to call the
sheriff’s office at 845-486-3800, on the tipline at 845-605-CLUE
(2583) or at dcsotips@gmail.com .
