POUGHKEEPSIE – The Citizens Advisory Committee on Domestic Violence in Dutchess County is backing County Legislator Joel Tyner’s proposal to expand the Domestic Abuse Response Team (DART) program beyond its current boundaries.
At present, the program only deals with cases in the City of Beacon, Town and City of Poughkeepsie, and Town of Hyde Park.
Tyner said if expanded the program would support all victims of domestic violence in the county.
“That really does wonders to take the burden off someone who is abused to someone who has committed an act of domestic violence so instead of putting the burden on you the burden goes more on the criminal justice system in Dutchess County,” Tyner said.
The county legislature must approve expanding the program countywide, something Tyner hopes a majority of lawmakers will do.
