TOWN OF NEWBURGH – The man killed
while walking on Route 17K in the Town of Newburgh just before 10 p.m.
Wednesday was a 78-year-old man who lived not far from where the accident
occurred by the Stewart National Guard Base entrance.

Police Chief Michael Clancy identified the victim as Thomas Taylor, 78,
who was struck in the westbound traffic lane by a westbound car. The vehicle
was driven by Aaron Harris, 25, of the City of Newburgh.

Taylor was known to walk in the area fairly regularly, Clancy said. It
is not known if he was going home or from where he was coming.

No charges have been filed against the driver. Clancy said no criminality
is suspected at this time; however, the investigation is continuing.
