WHITE PLAINS – Effective June 1 the Mount Kisco Police Department will become part of the Westchester County Police. The county board of legislators and the town have agreed to the intermunicipal agreement that that will run until the end of 2019.
Since the county department will take over command and control, the village is projected to save $2.4 million over the first five years, said County Legislator Peter Harckham.
“It will be the same officer on the beat and in fact, there will be more officers on the beat, but command and control and dispatch will all be taken over by the county and because of our economies of scale, that is how we are able to save them money at no cost to the other taxpayers of Westchester,” Harckham said.
The county will provide 25 personnel to work in the village including 17 police officers with a minimum of two on patrol, three detectives, and five supervising sergeants.  The officers will become part of the county police department.
Legislature Chairman Michael Kaplowitz said the consolidation is “a smart and practical way to maintain and in fact improve the safety and security of Mount Kisco residents while saving taxpayer dollars.”
At present, Ossining and Cortlandt also have similar policing agreements with the county.
