BEACON – A frustrated Beacon Mayor Randy Casale would like to see the city council members make up their minds as to which way they want to proceed with the future of its firehouses.
The city has three at present.   A consultant recommended they be sold with the city building a new central firehouse at a cost of $7.5 million.
Lawmakers are leery about the city taking on that much additional debt so they keep analyzing and questioning their options.
Casale said the longer they take, the more the cost will be no matter what course of action is decided upon.
“They voted to table the resolution and bring back in the consultant to ask him questions and have the finance people show what that’s going to do to our taxes if we bond this money, which the old administrator showed them once,” the mayor said. “I don’t know what our next step is.”
If the city council doesn’t go with constructing a new central firehouse, another option could be rehabilitating its existing ones.
