MIDDLETOWN – The National League of Cities has recognized Middletown Mayor Joseph DeStefano for the recent completion of key health and wellness goals for “Let’s Move!” Cities, Towns and Counties.
The “Let’s Move!” program is a component of First Lady Michelle Obama’s initiative to ensure that children can grow up healthy.
One bronze and two gold medals were awarded to Middletown for action taken to improve access to healthy affordable and increase opportunities for physical activity.
Healthy Orange Middletown proposed the idea of becoming a Let’s Move! City to the mayor as it aligned with the coalition’s mission to increase fruits and vegetables, increase water consumption, increase physical activity and promote smoking cessation.
“This is an exciting opportunity for Middletown,” said DeStefano. “We want our youth and adults to be healthy and have opportunities to eat well, be physically active and provide alternatives to screen time. We are already doing a great job in Middletown. It is important to recognize all of the community efforts that have been put into place so far. I am excited that Middletown is a Let’s Move City!”
