MID-HUDSON – The state budget deadline is less than one week away
and critics of the governor’s school aid proposal believe it is
insufficient.
The Alliance for Quality Education and Citizen Action New York are among the groups speaking out across the state, giving the governor a failing grade on the subject.
Kat Fisher, the regional director of Citizen Action New York, led a delegation of residents from Orange, Ulster and Sullivan counties to the governor’s regional office at Stewart Airport.
“Just to let him know that his policies are serving his hedge fund campaign donors more than they are serving communities, students and schools,” Fisher said.
Alliance for Quality Education Executive Director Billy Easton brought his message to Saugerties Wednesday night.
“So far the Assembly leadership has been fighting hard and assume fighting hard for the needs of students, but unfortunately the senate has been giving lip service but not actually standing up to the governor,” he said.
Easton maintains the governor is more concerned with “punishing” teachers and students with too much concentration on testing.
