Rockland man sustains burns from fireplace log

CHESTNUT RIDGE – A Chestnut Ridge
man sustained burns to both legs when he tried to put out a fire caused
by embers from a fireplace log he was trying to carry outside.

The resident of 15 Highland Avenue in Chestnut Ridge told Ramapo Police
that at around 11 p.m. Saturday, a log in his fireplace made a popping
sound and sent an ember out into the room.

He took the log out of the fireplace and walked through the house with
it to take it outside and extinguish it.

As he walked through the garage, embers fell off the log igniting some
items in the garage and as he attempted to put out the fire, incurred
the burns to his legs. As a result of his injuries, he was transported
to Westchester Medical Center.

The fire was extinguished by the South Spring Valley Fire Department and
Pearl River Excelsior Fire Department.
