Molinaro, left, and Mauri, with the z13

POUGHKEEPSIE – IBM’s Poughkeepsie facility is the manufacturing location for Big Blue’s new z13 mainframe system, its new flagship product.
Those new systems began being shipped on Monday and Dutchess County Executive Marcus Molinaro had a firsthand look at them.
“This is an amazing integration of technology, investment, innovation and human capital, all brought together right here in Dutchess County,” said Molinaro. “It was inspiring to meet the bright, young millennial engineers working on this project, alongside the talented IBM veterans, all working to continue IBM’s legacy of innovation in the global marketplace.”
zSystems General Manager Ross Mauri called the IBM Poughkeepsie plant the “center of the universe” for the system, with the majority of those who designed it employed at the Poughkeepsie site.
The z13 system is the result of IBM’s $1 billion investment and five years of development and includes more than 500 new patents.
