NEWBURGH – The New ordinance that requires stores in Newburgh to obtain a tobacco retail license took effect on Sunday.
The ordinance requires retailers to pay for a license and follow sales
rules to protect the public health, safety and welfare of residents, particularly
children.
Mayor Judy Kennedy said the ordinance is in the process of being implemented.
“I know that there are a few establishments didn’t have their establishment up to code and that our code department is working with them to get that accomplished and we are marching forward to implement this,” Kennedy said.
Stores that violate the new ordinance could be fined and have their license to sell tobacco products pulled.
