ELLENVILLE – Residents in the Village of Ellenville will go to the polls next week for a special vote on using $1.2 million of its $3 million reserve to eliminate the existing water deficit and water capital debt.
Mayor Jeffrey Kaplan said there is a reason for the need to pay off the water deficit.
“We need that pay-down because we are completing our bonding and the (New York State) Environmental Facilities Corporation said we have to remove the deficit or having a plan to remove the deficit before we can finalize the financing,” Kaplan said. “So, we have one or two things we can do.”
Those options are spend the surplus funds or raise taxes, Kaplan said.
The mandatory referendum will be held from 12 noon to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, February 25.
