Curent public safety building

NEWBURGH – The public safety building in the City of Newburgh was built in the 1970s and city officials are starting to think it has outlived its usefulness.
There are air quality and structure issues in the building that houses the police department.
City Manager Michael Ciaravino would like to see a public safety facility in the center of the city to replace the building at the foot of Broadway.
“As it deteriorates, and now we are at the level of chunks of concrete falling off onto passersby underneath the police department, a number of concerns on this building as well as others, it is time for us to consider that,” he said. “Maybe there is an opportunity to have a public safety center somewhere centrally located in the city, perhaps with some type of playground or public space near it so that there is an opportunity for our community and safety forces to interact and support the work that is currently being done with foot patrols – establish relationships within our community and a number of other possibilities for opportunities going forward.”
Ciaravino said one potential location for a new police headquarters could be in the Mid-Broadway project site, which will include a ground level supermarket and four floors of apartments above.
