STONY POINT – A man in
his 50s was killed Saturday morning while riding a bicycle down a very
steep portion of Buckberg Road in the Town of Stony Point.

The man, whose name police did not immediately release, was not a resident
of Rockland County. He was traveling at 9:30 in a group of about eight
riders, each going down the hill approaching Mott Farm Road when his bike
left the roadway and crashed into a wooded area.

Police said there is no reason to believe that any other bicyclist or
vehicle was involved and nothing appears to be suspicious.

Speed, road terrain and condition and mechanical failure of the bike will
be considered by detectives as well as an autopsy to be conducted by the
Rockland County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The Rockland County Sherriff’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation
responded along with Stony Point Town Police.

Anyone who may have witnessed the accident is asked to call the Stony
Point Police Detective Division at 845-786-2422.
