NEW CITY – A 63-year-old Nyack man has been indicted by a Rockland County grand jury on two counts of assault and criminal possession of a weapon in connection with the slashing of another man on St. Patrick’s Day.

District Attorney Thomas Walsh II said it is alleged that around 6:12 p.m. on March 17, Eddie Sanchez, 63, engaged in a verbal dispute with a 46-year-old Orangetown man while on Main Street in Nyack.

Sanchez then pulled a knife and slashed the victim on the left side of his lower cheek causing a deep, four-inch cut that required 30 stitches. The incident was witnessed by several people.

Orangetown Police caught up with him in a vehicle with a large buck knife seized from the passenger side door compartment.

Sanchez faces from five to 25 years in state prison if convicted. He is currently on probation stemming from an assault conviction in Rockland County on March 24, 2023.
