TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – The Arlington Fire Department, assisted by firefighters from the Town and City of Poughkeepsie battled a two-alarm fire on Thursday morning just after 7:30 a.m.

Firefighters, supported by Empress EMS, responded to the call at Manchester Garden Apartments just as many of the residents were escorting their children to the school bus stop at the complex entrance.

When Arlington firefighters entered the second-floor apartment where the fire started, they encountered heavy smoke conditions along with dangerous rising temperatures.  The interior firefighters immediately radioed a request for the ladder truck crew to cut vents in the roof to allow the heat and smoke to escape.

The fire was extinguished within 30 minutes and Arlington firefighters remained on the scene for a period to check for flare-ups.
