BEACON – When veterans applied for a state grant to replace the windows in the aging Veterans Memorial Building in Beacon, they did not realize how long it would take for the state to release the money. The veterans were awarded $100,000 for the project nearly five years ago, and the money was released in February after NYS Senator Rob Rolison learned of the delay.
Fortunately, according to Rolison, the City of Beacon could pay for the new windows in anticipation of being reimbursed when the check arrived from Albany. That was quite some time ago.
Rolison joined several veterans at the home of the American Legion and VFW in Beacon on Friday to present the ceremonial check to reimburse the city coffers. He was joined by American Legion Post 203 treasurer John Macenroe, Marine Corps League Detachment 861 Commandant Tony Pulliam, VFW Post 666 Commander Harold Delamater, and MCL Det 861 Past Commandant Bob Pucher.
“Projects where funds have not been released sometimes become a bit of a challenge for organizations and communities,” Rolison said. “The money is there but sometimes it’s difficult to get it released,” he told the veterans.
