Sullivan County tops region in new jobs

ALBANY – New jobs in Sullivan County grew by 4.3 percent in December 2023 compared to the same month one year earlier.

The State Labor Department also said private sector jobs regionwide rose by 6,100, or 0.8 percent, to 809,800 in December 2023.

The Dutchess-Putnam-Metropolitan Division had 2.9 percent more jobs while Greene County saw an increase of 2.1 percent.

There were 1.3 percent more jobs in Ulster County and 1.2 percent additional jobs in Delaware County.

The Orange-Rockland-Westchester Metro Area had just 0.2 percent new jobs while Columbia County saw no growth.

The largest job gains were in private education and health services (+11,100); leisure and hospitality (+6,400); and other services (+700).

Job losses were centered in mining, logging and construction (-4,500); trade, transportation and utilities (-4,300); professional and business services (-1,900); financial activities (-500); manufacturing (-500); and information (-400).
