KINGSTON – The City of Kingston is seeking four members of the public to join a form-based zoning code working group.

This working group will work with city staff to ensure that the newly adopted zoning code meets its objectives in areas such as housing development, walkability, and small business development. As needed, the working group will also be involved in suggesting zoning amendments to the common council.

“I am so proud that we were able to pass a new zoning code for Kingston that is designed to make our city more equitable, help with smart and sustainable development, and preserve our historic and natural resources. This working group will help us look at the new zoning code holistically to make sure we are meeting all of our goals,” said Mayor Steven Noble.

City of Kingston Housing Director Bartek Starodaj said that last August, Kingston “completed the most important change to its land use laws since the 1960s. This working group will ensure that the city’s new zoning code continues to meet Kingston’s planning, housing, transportation, and design priorities and will play a key role in recommending any future code amendments to the Common Council.”

Applications are due January 31, 2024. City of Kingston residents and anyone that can demonstrate a connection are eligible to the city to apply.
