SAUGERTIES – Archtop Fiber’s new fiber-optic internet will be providing service to the Village of Saugerties, Mayor William Murphy said.

Based in the Town of Ulster at iPark, the company is installing underground fiber optic cables in Ulster and Sullivan counties.

“I’m looking forward to witnessing the enhanced quality of life and economic improvements that will come from this significant internet infrastructure upgrade,” the mayor said.

In addition to aerial deployment, Archtop will complete 83.8 miles of microtrenching in Saugerties, the mayor said. That is a technology that uses minimally invasive blades that slice tracks into the earth or asphalt – about an inch wide – to install the fiber underground. It is installed at a depth that allows for continued road maintenance and replacement without disruption of service.

That microtrenching has begun bringing the service “one step closer to delivering the long-awaited, essential and high-quality internet services to underserved communities across the Hudson Valley,” said Archtop Fiber Chairman and CEO Jeff DeMond.
