FISHKILL – First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, speaking Friday at the new Dutchess County Community College Mechatronics facility at the Fishkill Campus, talked of the need for a good education and the support of the administration.

Mechatronics occupies the intersection of mechanical systems, electrical systems, control systems, and computers.

“The new Mechatronics lab will help students get the skills they need for the growing business right here preparing them for careers making everything from display screens to jet engines to semiconductors,” Dr. Biden said. “This work changes people’s lives, because for most people, a high school diploma alone isn’t enough to find a great career. But, that doesn’t mean that there’s only one path to success. Students can take college courses in high school, enroll in registered apprenticeships or earn associate degrees,” she said. “That’s the Biden education pathway.”

Dr. Biden said this new hub will help the Hudson Valley be a Mechatronics leader and occupies the intersection of mechanical systems, electrical systems, control systems, and computers.

Following her stop in Fishkill, the First Lady traveled to Poughkeepsie where she visited the Day One Early Learning Community where she highlighted the importance of early childhood education and strengthening the education workforce.

During her visit, she toured the center and met with education leaders in  the community.
