POUGHKEEPSIE – Two 16-year-old teens have been detained by police after a 13-year-old boy sustained multiple gunshot wounds on Thursday.

City of Poughkeepsie Police Captain Rich Wilson said his officers and deputies from the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a shooting in the vicinity of Garden Street and Zimmer Avenue at approximately 2:02 p.m.  “Deputies who were in the area arrived first and located the 13-year-old suffering from bullet wounds to his legs.

He was triaged at the scene and transported to a local hospital for treatment.

City of Poughkeepsie police detectives received descriptions of the alleged shooters from witnesses in the area.

Shortly after getting the descriptions, detectives noticed two teens in the area that matched the descriptions.   As police approached, the two teens ran in opposite directions in a futile attempt to escape.

Both teens were detained and a backpack containing a loaded 9mm semi-auto ghost gun was confiscated and secured.

The two young men were transported to the City of Poughkeepsie police department juvenile division for further investigation.

Captain Wilson told Mid-Hudson News that the teens may face charges for both the weapon and the shooting.
