POUGHKEEPSIE – Assemblyman Jonathan Jacobson (D, Newburgh) is sponsoring a gun buyback event on Saturday, July 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Beulah Baptist Church, 92 Catharine Street in the City of Poughkeepsie. The event will be run by the Poughkeepsie Police Department.

Those who turn in guns will receive gift cards in exchange. Anyone who turns in working handguns or assault weapons will receive $500 in gift cards, no questions asked, and no identification will be required.

“The City of Poughkeepsie’s high incidence of shootings and gun-related incidents is concerning,” he said. “I am committed to keeping our communities safe and have fought hard for common sense gun safety measures.”

Jacobson said he secured Assembly funding to hold the gun buyback program “because we need to do all we can to get guns off the streets.”
