PORT JERVIS- The Port Jervis Consort, an ensemble of voices, flute, cello and piano, will perform their premiere “Chamber Music Cafe” on Sunday, June 11, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. at Marsh Hall at the First Presbyterian Church of Port Jervis, 60 Sussex Street.  The ensemble will present a varied program of fine music from madrigals and motets to Billy Joel and Riverdance, in a relaxed setting.  Refreshments will be served and admission is free.

“Chamber music is meant for a relatively small group of performers in an intimate space, as opposed to a large concert hall with perhaps a 60 piece symphony orchestra,” says baritone and coordinator Jim Blanton, who performed in New York City and nationally before moving to Port Jervis in 2001.  “Sometimes chamber music, or classical music in general, is considered to be only for an elite or ‘high brow’ audience.  We hope to prove with our chamber music cafes that this music can be enjoyed by anyone, whether or not you’ve ever had music lessons or attended a symphony concert.  The setting will be informal and the performers available for discussion or questions.  It is all about having fun while being inspired by great music in a variety of styles.”
