Hudson man arrested for grand theft auto and illegal firearm possession

CITY OF HUDSON – Police in Hudson arrested an 18-year-old Hudson man on Thursday on charges of motor vehicle theft, possession of a weapon following a previous conviction, and drug possession.

Following investigation, Darrick Sanchez was arrested.

At about 3:45 p.m. on May 4, police received a call from a woman reporting her vehicle, a 2023 Kia Sorento, valued at $52,000, was stolen from the area of Warren and North 5th Street. She had parked it there between 1 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. and discussed it missing right before she called the police.

A credit card was also stolen.

The vehicle was located shortly after 6 p.m. in the area of the 100 block of Columbia Street.

At the time of his arrest, Police said Sanchez possessed a .380 cal. revolver, the victim’s stolen credit card and a small quantity of a drug. Police also seized $1,769 in cash from him and said more criminal charges are pending.

Sanchez was arraigned and released on his own recognizance.

Police Chief L. Edward Moore said the SUV was tracked by using a Kia app.

He said there was a violent struggle when officers took Sanchez into custody. A sergeant’s body camera was smashed and destroyed; there were no injuries to officers. A Taser was deployed to subdue Sanchez.
