TOWN OF HURLEY – An “unsafe” condition at the town’s highway department garage on 1035 Dug Hill Road in West Hurley has forced the town to move the highway garage to 35 Basin Road in West Hurley, according to town officials.  Town Code Enforcement Officer Tom Tyron declared the building unsafe on January 24, 2023.

An analysis of the structural integrity of the building was completed and delivered to town officials the day before Tyron order the building shuttered.  Kingston-based Lockwood Architecture performed an inspection of the building in December and noted several dangerous issues in the January report.  Safety concerns included cracks in the floors and walls of the building, presence of mold on the roof trusses, elevated levels of noxious gasses, and the integrity of the roof trusses was considered “questionable”.

Code Enforcement Officer Tyron also documented the deterioration of exterior walls, an electrical system that was not up to code, and the absence of smoke, fire, and carbon monoxide detectors, as well as several other violations.

The Lockwood firm’s report recommends the complete demolition of the Dug Hill Road facility.
