TOWN OF WALLKILL – A freight train carrying salt and corn derailed just east of the Town of Wallkill train station, shutting down the single-track line between Port Jervis and Campbell Hall on Wednesday afternoon.

Officials of NJ Transit, which operates Metro-North’s commuter train service on the west shore, said it would be closed until further notice while the train is placed back on the track and any needed track repairs have been completed.

Several railroad officials were on the scene assessing the situation.
