GOSHEN – The governor’s proposed state budget includes an article allowing the Catskill Regional Off-Track Betting Corporation to be disbanded.

The 13-county entity has not operated betting parlors since the pandemic began and the budget item would allow participating counties to join another OTB.

Orange County Legislator Kathy Stegenga is chairwoman of the Economic Development Gaming Committee, and she is leaning toward supporting the state proposal.

“If there was something they were going to bring to the table that would be great, but they haven’t done that in years and this also opens up all of the counties in that particular corporation and will allow us to join one of the neighboring corporations,” she said.

Stegenga said she would support Orange County joining the Capital Region OTB if the Catskill OTB was disbanded.
