WARWICK – Warwick residents enjoyed having coffee and talking with police officers at the Town of Warwick Police Department’s “Coffee with a Cop” event. The free, community event that drew residents from throughout the entire town was held on Tuesday at Café e Dolci in the Village of Warwick.
“We had a great turnout and we appreciate the support and the positive feedback we received,” said Chief John Rader.
Those who attended discussed a variety of issues from speeding on local streets and understanding village and town traffic codes to expressing their appreciation to the dedicated men and women at the department.
“The importance of community policing is not just being present, it’s engaging with residents, and one of the many ways to do this is by having events like Coffee with a Cop, National Night Out and the Junior Police Academy,” said Town Supervisor Jesse Dwyer.
In turn, residents appreciate the engagement and the opportunity to talk with officers. Diane Wozniak, of Homestead Village, came to express how impressed she is with the way police handle calls in her neighborhood. She spent some time with Officer Ryan King saying, “He’s a superb listener and I really enjoyed having a conversation with him.”
Another resident, Manny Tirado, treasurer of the Middletown Branch of the NAACP said, “We support community policing. And event’s such as this one is a great opportunity for police to have dialogue with the public.”
