POUGHKEEPSIE – After losing a re-election bid to Senator Michelle Hinchey, retiring Senator Sue Serino (R-Hyde Park) will be assuming a new role in Dutchess County in January, according to a Mid-Hudson News source.

Serino is also being encouraged to run for the position of Dutchess County executive in 2023 and has the backing of several prominent county Republican officials.

On Tuesday, Serino attended the Dutchess County Law Enforcement Academy graduation ceremony.  Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro, who is leaving the county and going to Washington after winning a congressional seat in November, implied that he is supporting a potential Serino campaign.  Noting that both he and City of Poughkeepsie Mayor Rob Rolison are leaving their current offices after winning their recent races, Molinaro said, “I’m hopeful that perhaps retiring State Senator Sue Serino might have a new chapter open for her in just a few months.”

Dutchess County Sheriff Kirk Imperati told the capacity crowd at the ceremony that Serino has been a major supporter of law enforcement during her time as a lawmaker. “The state’s loss will be the county’s gain,” he said.  Prior to serving in the senate, Serino’s political career began when she was elected to the Hyde Park Town Board before winning a seat on the Dutchess County Legislature.

Dutchess County Clerk Brad Kendall and Legislature Chairman Gregg Pulver have both previously announced their support of a Serino campaign for county executive.

While the election for Dutchess County Executive does not take place until November of 2023, Serino is said to be taking a position within county government in January, spearheading a campaign of public outreach for a segment of the county’s population.
