MIDDLE HOPE – A 64-year-old man perished in the Tuesday night house fire on Babes Lane, Newburgh Town Police said Wednesday.

The victim, identified as Michael Gida, was transported to Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police said two other family members were also transported to the hospital where they were treated for what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but does not appear to be suspicious.

Assisting Newburgh Town Police at the scene were Middle Hope and Cronomer Valley fire departments, Mobile Life Support Services, State Police and Town of Newburgh fire inspectors.
