Sullivan County tops state job growth

ALBANY – Private sector jobs in the Hudson Valley rose by 34,700 or 4.6 percent, to 795,700 over the year in September, the State Labor Department reported.

Sullivan County ranked number one in new jobs with 9.1 percent growth.

The Orange-Rockland-Westchester Metro Area ranked second in the region with 4.8 percent growth. The Dutchess-Putnam Metropolitan Division followed with 3.4 percent job growth. Ulster County saw 2.7 percent growth Greene County had 1.0 percent new jobs.

Columbia County lost 0.6 percent of its jobs and Delaware County jobs fell by 5.3 percent.

Job gains were the largest in professional and business services (+9,800); educational and health services (+8,800); leisure and hospitality (+7,200); natural resources, mining and construction (+3,800); trade, transportation and utilities (+3,300); other services (+3,000); and manufacturing (+300).

Losses were centered in financial activities (-1,500).
