WHITE PLAINS – Transportation Security Administration officers prevented a Peekskill man from carrying his loaded handgun onto a flight at Westchester County Airport on Wednesday, July 20. The .38 caliber revolver was loaded with five bullets.
This is the third airport gun incident at a Hudson Valley airport this month.
Two other individuals attempted to bring guns in their carry-on luggage this month at New York Stewart International Airport at Newburgh.
As with the other two cases, a TSA officer spotted the handgun on the checkpoint X-ray machine monitor.
Westchester County Police were called to the scene and confiscated the gun and detained the man for questioning before allowing him to depart the airport. He now faces a federal financial civil penalty for bringing a gun to an airport security checkpoint.
This was the second handgun that TSA officers have stopped at the Westchester Airport checkpoint so far this year.
