FISHKILL – A developer, working with the property manager of the former Dutchess Mall, has submitted plans to breathe new life into the semi-vacant property on Route 9 near I-84 in the Town of Fishkill.  The plans for a new 350,000-square-foot warehouse on the site were presented to the town’s planning board on Thursday evening.

Since the major retailers moved from the mall years ago, the property has sat vacant since 2001, despite the marketing efforts of the DAGAR Group, the building’s property manager.  The northern end of the mall was re-purposed and now has a Home Depot and a satellite branch of Dutchess Community College.

David Livshin, CEO of the DAGAR Group said “My clients are excited about the opportunity to bring new construction jobs, employment opportunities, and financial stability to the town with this project. The developers are confident that they can work with the town to make this a mutually-beneficial project.”

Citing the potential for a revitalized economy in the town south of I-84, Town Councilman Carmine Istvan welcomed the proposal.  “This is huge for that part of Fishkill,” he told Mid-Hudson News. “Getting rid of the eyesore, bringing in revenue, and supporting the tax base is just a massive boost for the Town of Fishkill,” he added, noting that the plans are under the review of the planning board, which is independent of the town council.

The planning board, their engineer, and the town building department will review the proposal, and make recommendations to the unnamed developer that is seeking to construct a warehouse on the site. Councilmember Louise Daniele is the Planning Board liaison and, according to a statement issued by the town, expects a thorough review by the planning board and its consultants.
