Repo man shot at in Poughkeepsie

POUGHKEEPSIE – A man attempting to repossess a car was shot at early Thursday morning in Poughkeepsie.  Police have arrested a suspect and recovered a gun.

City 911 received a call from a man at 2:11 a.m. who indicated that someone had fired gunshots at him as he was attempting to repossess a vehicle on South Avenue in the vicinity of the former Rite Aid.  Officers responded immediately and located multiple subjects involved and found several 9mm shell casings in the vicinity of 97 South Avenue.

Detective Lieutenant Matt Clark said that after interviewing all involved in the incident, a Glock 9mm handgun with the serial number ground off, was located in the bushes in front of the old Rite Aid. 

Kelly Thompson Jr. was arrested and charged with felonies of attempted assault and criminal possession of a weapon in addition to felony possession of a weapon with a defaced serial number, and felony criminal use of a firearm. 

Thompson was held for arraignment and the other subjects were released without charges.
