Kingston man arrested for attempted murder charges

KINGSTON – A 20-year-old Kingston man was arrested on Tuesday, April 26 on a charge of attempted murder for shooting a 29-year-old man with whom he was having a dispute.

Kingston City Police also charged Antoine Leonard with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, and two counts of reckless endangerment.

He was arraigned and remanded to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail, $100,000 secured bond, or $150,000 unsecured bond.

It is alleged that on April 30 at about 12:18 p.m., Leonard fired several rounds from a handgun, several striking the victim as well a local business with customers inside, and a private home occupied by a family at the time.

Leonard fled the scene, and the victim was transported to the hospital by private vehicle. He suffered several gunshot wounds to his lower extremities, was treated and released a few days later.

Kingston Police were assisted at the scene and over the course of the investigation by State Police, the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office, County Sheriff’s Office, Town of Ulster Police and other agencies.
