MONTICELLO – The alleged Monticello bank robber who was arrested in New York City late Saturday night was fast asleep in the back of a car when NYPD officers went over to check on the vehicle that had been reported stolen.
Cops from the 32nd Precinct in Manhattan arrested Charles Pratt, 33, of Watertown on a charge of possessing a stolen vehicle.
Pratt, who was wanted for robbing the M&T Bank branch on Route 42 in Monticello last Friday afternoon, was brought back to Monticello by Sullivan County Sheriff’s detectives.
He was charged in Sullivan County with the felonies of robbery, criminal possession of stolen property and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
Pratt was arraigned before Neversink Town Justice Michael Scagnelli and sent to the Sullivan County Jail without bail pending a future court appearance.
Sheriff Mike Schiff said that his deputies aggressively pursued this case from the start. “We have a motivated group of deputy sheriffs who take these crimes very seriously. They were relentless in their pursuit of this suspect,” said the sheriff. He also acknowledged the police officers of the NYPD 32nd precinct. “We all know how busy they are in New York City with their own investigations. They did a great job spotting the getaway vehicle on the street and apprehending the suspect.” Schiff said that he was thankful that no one was injured during the commission of the crime or the subsequent apprehension of the suspect.
