Newburgh man pleads guilty to attempted murder

GOSHEN – A 19-year-old Newburgh is expected to spend the next 15 years of his life in state prison in connection with his plea in Orange County Court to two counts of attempted murder and one count of assault for shooting three people in the City of Newburgh on September 17, 2021.

Danny Flores-Garcia also pled guilty to criminal possession of a weapon for possessing a loaded and defaced pistol on July 13, 2021.

According to the plea agreement, the district attorney’s office will recommend a sentence of 20 years in prison and five years of post-release supervision when he is sentenced on June 3.

The judge promised not to sentenced Flores-Garcia to more than 15 years in prison and five years of post-release supervision.

Flores-Garcia admitted that he shot three people at about 2:40 a.m. on September 176, 2021 in the area of 69 Mill Street in the City of Newburgh. He admitted he was trying to kill two of the people at the time he shot them and that he seriously injured them. He also admitted wounding a third person.

Flores-Garcia also admitted that on July 13, 2021 at about 11:15 in the morning in the vicinity of 88 Benkard Avenue in Newburgh he possessed aw loaded and defaced Ruger pistol. The serial number had been removed from the weapon.

“There can be no greater priority for law enforcement in the City of Newburgh than stopping the senseless violence that so adversely affects our communities,” said District Attorney David Hoovler. “We can only hope those who were injured by this defendant will fully recover. Fortunately, no one lost their life as result of this defendant’s cold-blooded actions.”
