MONTICELLO – Former Monticello Mayor Gordon Jenkins was elected to the village board during Tuesday’s elections. He polled 502 votes. His significant other, Rochelle Massey, was re-elected to the board, polling 513 votes.
Incumbent Charles Sabatino lost his seat, garnering only 182 votes and newcomer Michael Greco also lost, with 198 votes.
With 395 votes, former Monticello Police Chief Douglas Solomon was elected village justice, defeating former mayor Gary Sommers, who polled 240 votes.
When Jenkins was mayor, he got into legal hot water by selling counterfeit name brand sneakers at his Broadway store and engaging in a confrontation with police. He would later be sentenced to 45 days in jail and be forced to resign.
After Solomon retired as police chief, he was elected village mayor and went on to become chief of police in the City of Beacon and later, chief in the City of Newburgh.
