MONTICELLO – Monticello Mayor Gordon Jenkins surrendered on Tuesday to begin his 45-day sentence in the Sullivan County Jail. He had exhausted appeals of his conviction last year of misdemeanor obstruction of governmental administration and a violation of disorderly conduct.
Jenkins maintained the district attorney’s office had it out for him and that it was a “public lynching” of him.
While Jenkins is behind bars, Trustee Larisssa Bennett will fill in as deputy mayor.
Jenkins, who has said he would not resign from his post, has previously said he would not seek reelection.
