MONTICELLO – Former Monticello Mayor Gordon Jenkins lost his effort to have the state Court of Appeals review the legality of a lower court ruling removing him from office.
His attorney Michael Sussman believes the courts “erred and that Gordon is being punished for condemning, in very harsh and personal terms racism he has experienced as an elected official.”
Sussman said Jenkins “stole nothing, did not misuse public funds for his own gain and did not misuse his office.” The attorney said Jenkins’ “recent run-ins with law enforcement appear primarily motivated by hostile police officers who exaggerated what Gordon did and the circumstances of these events.”
