GOSHEN – Newburgh resident Jordan Myles, 28, pled guilty to several gun charges in the middle of his trial in Orange County Court on Monday.

The defendant pled to two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and one count of criminal possession of a firearm.

He is expected to be sentenced to seven years in state prison when he appears in court in May. The district attorney’s office recommended 15 years behind bars.

Myles and another man had been passengers in a car when it was stopped in the City of Newburgh in the evening on May 15, 2020. A loaded and operable .25 caliber Beretta handgun was found under Myles’ seat.

Following his plea, the case against another passenger was adjourned in contemplation of dismissal.

Prosecutors had previously entered into a plea agreement with the driver, who will plead guilty to a violation for driving without a license.

“Addressing gun violence has to be the number one priority of law enforcement in the City of Newburgh,” said District Attorney David Hoovler. “My office will continue to seek meaningful incarceration for those who illegally possess weapons.”
