TOWN OF FISHKILL – The Hudson Valley Renegades are teaming up with the Town of Fishkill, Fishkill Little League, and the Fishkill Food Pantry on a community-service initiative.  “Fishkill Serves” is the concept of a Fishkill councilman.

Councilman Brian Wrye said the idea came to him after taking office in January.  “Fishkill Serves calls for the Renegades to dedicate a game, so the Fishkill Little League players can collect food donations from those attending a game to benefit the Fishkill Food Pantry and a percentage of the ticket sales would also go to the pantry.”

Wrye recently met with representatives from the Renegades, Fishkill Little League, and the Fishkill Food Pantry to strategize on the concept. Renegades President Steve Gilner and staffers joined Wrye, Peter Lyons from Fishkill Little League, and Kristen Cullen, Fishkill Food Pantry director to develop the event coming to Dutchess Stadium to bring Wrye’s idea to reality.

“Fishkill Serves” day will take place on June 12 and will have little leaguers collecting non-perishable food items for the pantry that serves 200 families per month in Beacon, Beekman, Chelsea, Cold Spring, Fishkill, Glenham, Hopewell Junction, Hughsonville, Stormville, Wappingers, and Holmes. “Forty percent of our clients are from Beacon,” noted Cullen.

With more than 350 children in Fishkill Little League, Peter Lyons said “Developing this joint partnership between the Hudson Valley Renegades, Fishkill Food Pantry and Fishkill Little League directly supports our mission in helping us to cultivate the children of our league to be great citizens. It develops character and gives them first-hand experience of volunteering and helping to support those in need in our community.”
