Armed man who held police at bay for hours charged with attempted murder

TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – Alfred Califano has been charged with several felonies after Wednesday’s standoff with police on Channingville Road in the Town of Poughkeepsie.  Town police announced the charges on Thursday.

 

Califano allegedly fired shots into a house of a neighbor as well as an occupied car around 4:13 a.m. on Wednesday before barricading himself in his residence.  The 49-year-old held police at bay until surrendering at 8:40 a.m.  The Mid-Hudson News account of the standoff can be found HERE.

 

Califano has been charged with two felony counts of attempted murder, four felony counts of reckless endangerment, and two felony counts of criminal possession of a weapon.

 

The investigation is ongoing.  Town police executed search warrants at two different addresses on Channingville Road Wednesday afternoon as part of the investigation.
