WINGDALE – Several agencies, at the request of JH Ketcham Hose Company, worked to rescue a quarry worker who became entrapped in a mining machine deep in a tunnel in Wingdale at approximately 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday. He was finally freed by members of the technical rescue team at about 3:30 p.m.

The accident occurred in a tunnel more than a mile into the mountain at Wingdale Materials, a company belonging to Peckham Industries.

The technical rescue team, consisting of highly trained professional firefighters from Arlington, LaGrange, and Poughkeepsie fire departments, were supported at the scene by the JH Ketcham FD (Dover), Dutchess County Emergency Response, and the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office.

Sources say that the man was able to stand on his own when freed. A tourniquet was applied near one of his hands that had sustained injury.

He was removed from the tunnel and prepped to be airlifted by a LifeNet helicopter that had landed at the quarry during the rescue mission.

No additional information was immediately available.
