TOWN OF FISHKILL – The Fishkill Town Board approved the appointment of two full-time police assistant positions Wednesday night.  The appointments come months after PBA President Carl DeMarco criticized Town Supervisor Ozzy Albra’s delays in filling vacancies in the police department.

“He is quietly defunding the department,” DeMarco previously told Mid-Hudson News.  “Mr. Albra has defunded the department through attrition by not backfilling open positions,” he said.  DeMarco noted that the department currently has five vacancies in the patrol division, and they are short two lieutenants, two detectives, and two dispatchers, and Albra is making it difficult to fill the spots.”  The two dispatchers referenced by DeMarco are officially titled “Police Assistant” and were the appointments made on Wednesday.

Police Chief Keith Dworkin recommended the hiring of Jacob Crespi and Daniel Sica for the two vacant full-time spots.  The board unanimously approved the candidates.

Jacob Crespi has been with the police department for almost three years as a part-time police assistant, according to Dworkin. Daniel Sica is currently a sergeant in the department’s cadet program which he has been a member of since 2017 and was promoted to the rank of sergeant this year.  Dworkin said both young men have the potential for a successful career in law enforcement.  Crespi and Sica are both pursuing their degrees in criminal justice at Dutchess Community College.

“I am confident these two young men will provide exceptional service to the Police Department and the residents of the Town of Fishkill,” Dworkin told Mid-Hudson News after the young men were appointed.
