KINGSTON – The Ulster County Division of Human Rights consists of Commissioner Tyrone Wilson and a part-time employee.

A second part-time worker is included in the county’s 2022 proposed budget, but the commissioner would like more aid.

Wilson addressed the county legislature’s Laws and Rules Committee Monday evening asking for the additional staffer to be a full-time position, given the additional work from the county’s helpline.

“When the helpline came on, that defeats the purpose of having a part-time person at that point,” he said. “I was going to manage dealing with a part-time person at least to help with the cases and everything else, but with the helpline, the part-time person really doesn’t make sense.  It would make more sense to have a full-time person with the part-time person.”

Committee members said they would reconsider his proposal in future months.
