TOWN OF WAPPINGER – A 38-year-old Wappinger woman has been charged with felony drunk driving after a Sunday night crash involving an ambulance. The collision caused the ambulance to roll over.

At approximately 10:50 p.m., State Police and emergency personnel responded to the motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Route 9 and MacFarlane Road in Wappinger.

Troopers said a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox SUV driven by Constance Guy, 38, made a left turn onto Route 9 and struck a northbound EMStar ambulance causing the emergency vehicle to flip onto its side.  The two ambulance personnel on board were not injured.

Guy was charged with misdemeanor DWI and a felony DWI because she had a minor child in the vehicle. The felony is a violation of Leandra’s Law. Ms. Guy was issued an appearance ticket.

A spokesperson for EMStar Ambulance said that the two employees who were in the ambulance were uninjured and asked for a new ambulance in order to continue their shift.

First-time offenders charged under Leandra’s Law for driving with a Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) of .08 percent or higher, or impaired by drugs, with a 15-year-old or younger child passenger can be charged with a felony punishable by up to four years in prison.
