TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – State and local elected officials joined together to honor the men and women who have served in the military at the Dutchess County War Memorial on Veterans Day.

NYS Senator Sue Serino and Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro participated in a wreath-laying ceremony at the memorial as veterans young and old gathered together for the ceremony, led by Adam Roche, Dutchess County’s Director of Veterans Services.

Serino expressed her gratitude for the brave Marines, soldiers, and sailors that served the country by saying “We can never repay you for your service but I thank you from the very bottom of my heart.”  Molinaro took the podium and recalled a recent gathering of veterans that were kayaking from Kingston to Bear Mountain.  Gathered around a campfire, Molinaro listened to the seven veterans talk about their experiences in what he called a “spiritual” moment.  Listening intently, Molinaro told Thursday’s attendees that more must be done for veterans.  “We must do more than we are doing today and it starts by listening to our veterans.”
