Sullivan County man charged with strangling victim unconscious

LUMBERLAND – A 34-year-old Town of Highland man has been charged with striking a victim and strangling the individual until unconscious during a physical domestic incident late Sunday morning, July 18.

State Police were called to a residence in the Town of Lumberland where investigation led to the arrest of Joshua Louis.

The victim was transported to Garnet Health Medical Center Catskills for evaluation.

While police interviewed Louis, they learned he had left the residence with two handguns that he hid in a bag in the woods. The weapons were recovered.

He was charged with strangulation and criminal possession of a weapon.

He was remanded to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $40,000 cash bail or $80,000 bond and a full stay-away order was issued on behalf of the victim.
