Connecticut man charged with striking several police cars during pursuit on T’way

WHITE PLAINS – A 51-year-old Hamden, Connecticut man was arrested late on Thursday afternoon, June 24, after he led police in a pursuit that began in I-287 in New York and continued on the Thruway over the Governor Cuomo Tappan Zee Bridge before being stopped on I-27 in Westchester County.

During the pursuit, the driver, Henry Cofrancesco, Jr. struck and damaged two State Police cars, a South Nyack patrol car and a Mahwah, New Jersey police car.

He was assessed at the scene and declined medical treatment. A female passenger was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a hospital.

During the investigation, troopers discovered over $3,000 in merchandise stolen from a Petco store in Reardon, New Jersey and a Petsmart store in Nazareth, Pennsylvania.

Cofrancesco was charged with criminal possession of stolen property, criminal mischief, reckless endangerment and unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle.

He was arraigned and released on his own recognizance for the State Police charges, but was held as a fugitive from justice for felony warrants out of Mahwah Police and transported to Westchester County Jail pending extradition.
